Our Team

Randy Bryan Moore

With 12 years of experience in policy advocacy, grassroots organizing, and outreach, he leads efforts to strengthen advocacy infrastructure, mobilize grassroots campaigns, and shape public policy on child welfare, education, and nutrition across Virginia.

He holds a Master and Bachelor of Social Work from the University of South Carolina, earning honors for service and leadership. His expertise includes legislative engagement, coalition building, strategic communications, and program development.

His advocacy is deeply informed by lived experience. Leaving school after 9th grade from a segregation academy in rural South Carolina shaped his worldview and fuels his commitment to justice. He advocates openly for neurodivergent visibility and has worked in civil rights advocacy for LGBTQ+ communities, behavioral health policy research, and federal advocacy, including supporting the "988 on Student IDs" legislation with Active Minds.

Outside policy, he is a musician and podcaster. His creative work explores identity, temporality, memory, and connection, weaving in his Appalachian and Southern heritage. He believes in using every available tool—policy, art, and community—to advocate for a better future.

Laura Burns

Laura Burns is a strategic communications and media consultant with deep experience in political advocacy, creative content, and public policy. A native Virginian with a Master of Social Work from the University of South Carolina, she began her career as a clinical social worker before advocating for housing rights in Richmond. She later transitioned into public policy, serving nearly a decade in the federal government advancing health care initiatives for underrepresented communities. That foundation in service and equity continues to shape her work today.

Laura has led messaging strategy for national and state-level campaigns, from consulting on pro-democracy projects with The Carter Center to serving as Deputy Director for Creative Content at The Lincoln Project. She established and directed media content for two reproductive rights campaigns in a key battleground state, creating bold, but accessible messaging to reach traditionally less receptive audiences.

Outside of her work, Laura is a ceramicist and recreational rock climber. As an artist, Laura believes in the power of the creative process to foster empathy and drive change. At Thread Through, she combines her background in policy, organizing, and media—alongside AI-powered tools—to help progressive campaigns and organizations communicate with clarity, courage, and purpose.
